Joe Casey focuses his practice on complex commercial and catastrophic injury matters. He has significant experience in jury trials across the state of Iowa, including as first-chair.
Joe assists the firm in civil litigation and trial work, including business disputes, insurance bad faith, products liability, and legal malpractice actions. He also has extensive experience obtaining emergency equitable relief, including federal receiverships and injunctions, in complex financial litigation. Joe has been well recognized by law industry groups for his work in commercial litigation, products liability, and professional negligence categories. He holds an AV-Preeminent peer review rating from Martindale-Hubbell and received the American Bar Association’s “On the Rise” Award in 2024.
Joe is an associate attorney with Zenor Law Firm. In recent years, he has represented clients from nearly two dozen states in matters before Iowa’s state and federal courts. Noteworthy examples include:
· Obtaining an emergency federal receivership (without bond) on behalf of a large investor whose funds were lost in the collapse of a hedge fund;
· Resolving a threatened bad faith action by securing settlement in excess of the policy limits;
· Negotiating multiple successful resolutions of contract actions after a corporate client’s blue-chip corporate customers failed to honor their contracts; and
· Recovering a substantial sum for a consumer permanently injured by a dangerous and defective product.
Joe serves on the state bar’s Federal Practice Committee, the ABA’s Director & Officer Liability Committee, and chairs a committee at the Iowa trial lawyers association (IAJ). He is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education seminars in Iowa, including on the ethical use of artificial intelligence in law practice. In his off-duty hours, he serves in board and volunteer positions at Catholic Charities of Des Moines and Central Iowa Shelter & Services (CISS), Iowa’s largest low-barrier homeless shelter.
Prior to entering private practice, Joe externed for Arizona Supreme Court Justice Clint Bolick and served as a licensed federal student practitioner in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
