Derek has focused his practice on appeals, civil litigation, criminal defense, and administrative law. He represents individuals and businesses in a wide variety of matters including premises liability, personal injury, contract disputes, criminal defense, fraud, and agency enforcement actions.
Derek is a partner at Zenor Law Firm. His diverse practice serves individuals and businesses in a variety of matters ranging from state and federal appeals, the federal False Claims Act, insurance coverage and bad faith, breach of contract and restrictive covenants, professional negligence, personal injury, fraud, white collar and regulatory actions, and criminal law.
Derek's resolute advocacy before trial and appellate courts has led him to obtain pre-trial dismissals of claims against Iowa individuals and businesses, secure favorable verdicts in state and federal civil trials, and successfully brief and argue appeals.
While at the Firm, Derek has presented on several topics including insurance coverage matters, and Iowa's adoption of the Restatement (Third) of Torts to the Polk County Bar Association.
When Derek attended the University of Iowa College of Law, he was a published writer for the Iowa Law Review and practiced in the Iowa Legal Clinic. Prior to practicing law, Derek worked as a flight instructor and commercial pilot in both single- and multi-engine airplanes around the country. He is still active in the aviation community.
